Who is Ryan Scott?

One of the most qualified and experienced PGA Fellow Professionals in the U.K, Ryan has accumulated tens of thousands of hours coaching golfers of varying ages & levels. From day to day Junior, Lady and Senior club members to High-performance coaching with Scottish, German & Hong Kong National Amateurs as well as Professional Golfer’s competing on the Euro Pro and Challenge Tours.

How did it all start?

Having played at an elite amateur level, Ryan joined the Professional Golfers Association in 2004 as an Assistant Professional and successfully achieved his degree in Professional Golf in July 2007 at Musselburgh Golf Club, East Lothian.

Since this time, he has coached at several venues across Scotland and was formerly Head of Coaching at the Loretto School Golf Academy for 5 years. Here he helped develop the rising stars in the game by implementing new coaching activities and strategies across both the Junior and Senior schools and working with golfers via long term development plans. This included golfers at early years introductory level through to those at National & International level with aspirations of using golf as a career.

He was successfully awarded PGA Advanced professional status July 2014 by the British Professional Golfers Association (PGA) due primarily to his achievements in golf coaching and his commitment to continued professional learning.

In September 2014, he completed a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in sport coaching at the University of Birmingham, as well as completing the new UKCC Level 3 qualification with the Professional Golfers Association. Ryan has now transferred onto a Masters (MSc) in sports Coaching, where he is exploring motivation and its impact on coaching across the nation.

Ryan Tutors and Assesses the ASQ UKCC Level 1 in golf for the PGA in Scotland and provides assistance and guidance to Volunteer and Professional coaches as part of his Scottish Golf Coach Developer Role for Edinburgh, East Lothian, Borders, Mid Lothian, West Lothian, Central and Fife.

In May 2017, Ryan was accepted onto the Sportscotland Educator team, where he tutors the Positive Coaching Scotland (PCS) Workshops and in March 2018 joined the Tutor Education team for Scottish Athletics.

Due to his tutoring and development work based around creating coaching opportunities for beginner adults, disabled and wider Inclusive groups within various communities, he was upgraded to PGA Fellow status in May 2017 by the PGA of Great Britain. Ryan is on course to becoming one of the first UKCC Level 4 qualified coaches in the United Kingdom for golf, with his long term aim to complete a PHD.
